110. John Roberts
John Roberts of Newtown, was the harpist who was later known by the title "Telynor Cymru" ("The Harpist of Wales").
John Roberts enlisted in the enlisted in the army as a drummer boy. For 9 years he was in the army but then deserted until he was able to buy his way out of the army (1844).
Headstone at Newtown parish church: "in memory of John Roberts/Harpist Newtown/Telynor Cymru/Died May 11, 1894/aged 78 ytears/Erected by subscription"
